Creating a life that nurtures my creativity and my soul.
As a wife and a mum trying to run my own business, there never seemed to be enough hours in the day, and with a mounting to-do list the one thing that always got pushed to the bottom of the heap was me. Over time my mental wellbeing began to crumble and I knew it was time to make a change, so in December 2019 The Conscious Knitter was born.
Knowing that something was wrong, but not knowing what it was or how to fix it I came across the ideas of slow living and creating a positive mindset. I began to read books and blogs, listened to podcasts, follow lots of inspirational women on Instagram, but the one constant throughout this time was my knitting. It gave me an outlet, space in my busy day to be creative and it allowed me to experiment free from the judgement of others.
It’s been, and still is in many ways, a slow process, but through embracing my creativity I have begun to re-build my self-worth, develop a much more positive mindset and put myself back at the top of my list of priorities. I’m by no means saying that knitting is a magical cure to making you feel better about yourself, but it is certainly a tool that can help you get there.
But isn’t it ‘just’ knitting?
No. For me, putting yourself first and nurturing your creativity go hand in hand. Knitting has always been a way for me to support myself emotionally and is a form of meditation that brings me peace and stillness. It is also the perfect antidote to the feelings of guilt that show up whenever you try to relax,; because you can’t be ‘just sitting’ or ‘being lazy’ if you have something to show for it at the end.
The simple act of through, around, over, off allows my mind to wonder and to dream, and right now my dream is to support you in slowing down so that you can make time to take care of you see the possibilities and joy that it can bring.
Whether you are a knitter or a designer I hope you will enjoy taking a stroll around my little corner of the internet and that you will find some inspiration to take away with you and try out. If you like what you see you can sign up to my monthly letter below to receive inspiration and guidance straight to your inbox, or you can come and chat with me on Instagram where you can find me @theconsciousknitter.
